A complete redesign of the app was carried out. The reason: the old app had become significantly outdated — its design no longer met visual standards or usability norms. Additionally, the app lacked features that had long been implemented by competitors.

Problem
Problem
An apparent problem still exists in the market for currency exchange rate monitoring apps: all players try to copy the market leaders—the apps of the SuperRich and SuperRich1965 exchange networks. These apps are far from the most user-friendly, so instead of blind copying, I insisted on conducting at least hallway testing to ensure that the solutions implemented by the market leaders are far from ideal.

Hypotheses
Since one of the requirements was to design a currency exchange calculator, which I believed was not the most user-friendly among competitors, there was a need to conduct a small test to confirm two hypotheses I had formed.
To achieve this, I conducted hallway testing with 15 colleagues.

Hypothesis #1
Some people get confused by the tables displaying buying and selling rates. Who is buying? Who is selling? Is it the exchange point or the person exchanging the currency?

In my opinion, it would be much clearer if the interface simply asked how much currency the person has and how much they want to receive in exchange.

Hypothesis #2
Not everyone understands what denomination means, and using this word in the interface to label a feature is inappropriate.

This hypothesis emerged when we had to implement a feature already present in competitors' apps—indicating the number of banknotes of each denomination in the calculator to show the total amount those banknotes could be exchanged for.

During the testing, almost all 15 colleagues agreed with me, so it was decided to design an interface that differed from the competitors'.

Based on the confirmed hypothesis #1, I replaced the ambiguous Buying and Selling labels with clearer We buy and We sell to make it absolutely clear that it is the exchange point, not the person exchanging currency, that is buying and selling. This eliminates any potential confusion on this screen.

The app clearly asks which currency the user has and how much they want to receive in exchange. The user then enters the amount of currency they have and receives a response indicating how much they will get in return.

If the user wants to know the exact amount they will receive from the exchange, they can specify the amounts of banknotes of all denominations they have. The app will then calculate the exact amount of currency they will receive in return. This option is available only if the receiving currency has multiple denominations (e.g., USD).

Information about the locations of exchange points can be viewed both as a list and on a map. Additionally, users can see photos of the exchange points to help them locate them more easily.
